Gatlinburg Brewing Company in Gatlinburg, Tennessee has been around for a long time, but just recently opened a taproom right in downtown historic Gatlinburg. We visited the taproom for the first time on a Monday in the middle of the afternoon and the brewery was doing great with most bar seats taken.
The taproom is brand new with a clean, modern look. It’s built on the top floor of a round building with huge floor to ceiling windows. So, no matter where you sit you’ll have a grand view of the chaos down on the main street of Gatlinburg. The bar itself is medium size and made out of poured concrete painted black. Lora liked that they had purse hooks under the bar.
They have a very limited menu consisting of things that can be cooked in a pizza oven. That includes pizzas, breadsticks, cheese sticks, and the like. People claim they have very good pizzas, but we haven’t tried them yet. They prepare the pizzas (and other foods) right in front of you at the bar and then cook them in a large New York style pizza oven. Kinda cool.
One very odd thing was that the taproom had large bar refrigerators and food prep surfaces directly behind the bar where the bartenders would normally stand. This made it almost impossible for the bartenders to reach the bar top to serve the patrons. Our bartender had to walk around to the front of the bar in order to serve her guest. I’d imagine they’re going to have to change this setup.
During our visit, Lora had the Gatlinburg Pale Ale while I had the Gatlinburg Pale Ale and the Beer in Black (Black IPA). Both beers were very good.
